10 Classic rom-coms you should be watching if you haven't already!
The romantic comedy genre is also known as "Rom-com" is the only genre out there committed to letting relatively ordinary people — no capes, no spaceships, no boundless spin-offs — make sense of how to manage the relationship with another individual. These are the most minimal stakes motion pictures we have that are likewise about our best expectations for ourselves and motion pictures on the improvement of communication.
This is moviemaking that investigates an essential human wonder about how to associate with an individual who's not you. "romantic comedies" presently — old exchange lingo that replaced both the romance and comedy.
Love is patient; love is kind. But it's also awkward, messy and really funny. These 10 classic romantic comedies mentioned below will help you feel the love and the laughs.

Clueless
Clueless is a 1995 coming of age movie, it stars Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd. I love Cher's (female protagonist) character development throughout the story. Cher started off as a very selfish and materialistic woman. I also love that the movie is female-centric. I have watched this movie countless times, and yet I can watch it any day and at any time. The cast was picked flawlessly and the movie is so well done. Its not a normal love story in a good kind of way, it's very original and fresh. Its one of my favourites, I highly recommend watching it.
How to lose a guy in 10 days
How to lose a guy in 10 days is a 2003 rom-com, starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. Loved the plot of the movie and the actors. The characters have amazing chemistry. Andie (female protagonist) is sassy, confident and blunt, which is very refreshing to see, she is also very hardworking and determined. Matthew at his most adorable, and Kate at her bubbliest, a movie so romantically comical I'm pretty sure it defines the genre.
Love actually
Love actually is a 2003 Christmas themed rom-com, it features an assembled cast mainly of British actors. I always end up watching this movie every year around Christmas. A wonderful romantic comedy, hugely entertaining and heartwarming with a fantastic star cast. Multiple love stories, some of them quite must create that Christmassy atmosphere. This movie puts you in the Christmas spirit and makes you appreciate the loved ones in your life.
Two weeks notice
Two weeks notice is a 2002 rom-com, it stars Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant. This movie is really refreshing and fun to watch. Lucy (female protagonist) is a snarky independent woman, who is an attorney and works for George (male protagonist) a rich and handsome CEO and owner of New York's leading commercial real estate firm. However, she grows tired and decides to quit as he treats her more like a nanny. A starkly underrated movie, subtle with humour and power play.
Four weddings and a funeral
Four weddings and a funeral is a 1994 rom-com, starring Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell. A great, evergreen movie. It follows the adventure of an introvert Charles (male protagonist) and his circle of friends, through a number of social occasions as they each encounter romance. Great detailing in characterization. The funeral scene is one of the most moving scenes I have seen in a movie.
10 Things I hate about you
10 Things I hate about you is a 1999 rom-com, starring Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger. It is a mix of classic and a modern-day high school drama. The chemistry between Kat (female protagonist) and Patric (male protagonist) is what makes this movie work. The female character is one my favourite, she is bold and stands for herself and her beliefs. The magic never dies in the movie. Highly recommended.
Sleepless in Seattle
Sleepless in Seattle is a 1993 rom-com, it stars Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Comic relief is provided from an otherwise sad story. Who could resist little Jonah dealing with his father's broken heart with the help of his friend Jessica. Adding to a wonderful script, and great acting, the movie soundtrack is also perfect in every way. An incredible story with realistic acting.
My big fat greek wedding
My big fat greek wedding is a 2002 independent rom-com, starring Nia Vardalos and John Corbett. I love the cute but sappy relationship between Toula (female protagonist) and Ian (male protagonist). This movie is a breath of fresh air. One of the most light-hearted movies ever made and so precisely captures cultures steeped in deep traditions and family bonding. Nia Vardalos gave a spectacular performance especially as a the self-defeated, single at 30 women, left to her own fate to help her father's Greek restaurant. Totally an entertainer, end to end.
You've got a mail
You've got a mail is a 1998 rom-com, starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Its a touching love story and again the chemistry between the Joe (male protagonist) and Kathleen (female protagonist) is amazing. Kathleen's vulnerability and pride in her mother made me shed tears. Joe's sensitivity and devious behaviour were very sweet. It's a movie with all elements a love story could ask for! Very touching.
Notting hill
Notting hill is a 1999 rom-com, starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. William (male protagonist), a British bookseller, meets and falls in love with Anna (female protagonist), a high-profile American actress. However, their relationship goes through many problems due to their different social statuses. The floppy-haired, shy, self-effacing Hugh Grant and the girl with a million-dollar smile, seeking true love, Julia Roberts are unforgettable. This is the stuff that dreams are made of and the romance is fabulous, yet believable. The other characters too are flawless in their performances. If you are a diehard romantic, do watch it again. It is mushy and slushy but it will hold your heart and fill it with warmth.
Toxic masculinity exists because men haven't seen Notting hill yet.
